Welcome to the Blue Candlelight Music Series’ 20th Season!
It is difficult to believe that after 18 months of uncertainty and confusion, we are proudly launching our 20thyear in person! The lockdown showed us what true friendships are all about and our team is stronger than ever, revving up for a great 20th celebration season.
Our seven concerts and a special event are a wonderful mix of international stars, our local favorites and young artists who are the future voice of our craft. The opening concert is dedicated to Black Composers of the 19th century to the present. I am proud to bring back Artina McCain, who last performed for BCMS five years ago. She is a force to be reckoned with and I know you will agree she is an important artist on our stage.
The next concert features the music of the previous pandemic. You will hear the works by composers who lived during the horrors of the Persian cholera and Spanish influenza. At the next concert, we will invite you to join us for the works of musicians who, by the will of fate, were exiled or lived outside of their homeland. This concert features one of our two debut artists, the brilliant violinist Irina Muresanu.
The next two concerts focus on features that are beloved by chamber music audiences: romanticism and nationalism. “Great Romantics” brings back the winning duo of Anton Nel and Andrés Cárdenes. The “Taste of France” concert features music of the great Impressionists Ravel and Debussy, as well as the marvelous birthday present sonata of César Franck. Finally, “Cinema” celebrates the film genre which has firmly established its place in the chamber music repertory. We will present a journey of music that will thrill and surprise you with its variety and charm. Our special event will present the winners of the IBLA piano competition, a sneak peek at the artists that will keep the flame of great music burning for generations to come.
